Base Plate Cleaning
At the end of every workday, wash off hardened concrete slurry, wet dirt, or asphalt residue from the underside of the base plate. Built-up debris adds dead weight, alters machine balance, and drastically reduces compaction efficiency.
Inspect Shock Mounts (Buffer Rubber)
Plate compactors use heavy-duty rubber isolators (shock mounts) between the vibrating base plate and the upper engine frame. These mounts protect the engine, fuel tank, and operator handles from structural damage. Inspect these mounts regularly for dry rot, tearing, or oil saturation, and replace them in pairs when worn.
Seasonal and Long-Term Storage Prep
When storing a plate compactor for extended periods:
- Drain the Fuel System: Run the engine until the carburetor is dry, or add a fuel stabilizer to prevent ethanol degradation from clogging fuel lines and jets.
- Change Engine and Exciter Oil: Storing the unit with clean oil prevents corrosive contaminants from etching internal metal parts.
- Store Off the Ground: Keep the unit covered in a dry, ventilated area out of direct weather exposure.
